Hey TBR family!
I wanted to share with you a little video from my final moments of production on the War and Peace albums.
Typically, the last week or so mostly involves me thinking to myself that I’m done, but then doubt kicks in… Is that note a little weird? Is that really the best vocal harmony for that section? Could this part use a better synth sound? I tend to dwell on the moments where I feel like something is missing, or could be supplemented with a tiny extra sound.
In this case, there was a breakdown in a heavy song called “Gunfight.” Since I heard the first demo over a year before, I had the idea to try some real gun sounds that “click” and “clack” along with the accents of the percussion. I didn’t want to let the project go without trying out what I was “hearing in my head” as they say. If a long time passes and I keep imagining these sounds, then I must try it. Occasionally, something else finds its way into the song and I no longer feel the need for that extra track of whatever I first envisioned.
It was perhaps the last day of tweaking the tracks before I sent them off to be mixed, and I pulled out my shotgun and 9mm to set up one last set of details. I was no longer in my normal home studio, and I had to build a temporary work station in the bedroom at my new house.
These tiny sessions are some of my favorite parts of making a record and I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did making it!
